Preliminary research has shown that chromium supplementation besides improving glucose tolerance can also play a part in increasing HDL (good) cholesterol at the same time as lowering overall cholesterol levels in the body. Many people take chromium picolinate as a fat burner. It has been shown in many studies to aid in fat loss and to help in gaining lean muscle tissue. It should come as no surprise that this mineral is one of the best selling supplements on the market today. The health benefits of chromium are varied, it has been used in connection with the following conditions:

The typical diet in the Western World contains processed and refined foods making it hard to get enough chromium in our diet. Of course if you eat plenty of organic unprocessed and unrefined grains and cereals you might not need to supplement with this mineral, myself I prefer to take a high quality multivitamin that includes chromium supplements as one of its many minerals and it has the added bonus vitamin C in it which increases the absorption of chromium. As for side effects, no one should take more than 300 mcg of it per day without the supervision of a doctor especially people that are diabetic.
